We meet Dr. Arizona Robbins, the new pediatric surgeon. She and Bailey don't see eye to eye on a young patient's case, Jackson Prescott. Jackson doesn't seem to be responding to the treatment Bailey has been giving and they fight over a new treatment.

5x12 Sympathy for the Devil{15 January 2009}
Jackson is in need of new organs. When UNOS finds a match, Arizona and Karev fly out to get them. As Arizona makes conversation, Karev lashes out at her for being too perky, but he soon realises that he's wrong when she admits to having nightmares about tiny coffins.

5x13 Stairway to Heaven{22 January 2009}
Jackson has only 16 hours to live and the doctors are desperate to find him new organs. At the last minute, new organs are found and Jackson's life is saved.

5x14 Beat Your Heart Out{5 February 2009}
A young girl with heart problems is admitted to the hospital. When Bailey freaks out about her surgery, Arizona gives her a pep talk and later encourages her to become a pediatric surgeon. After work, Arizona introduces herself to Callie Torres and they share their first kiss.

5x16 An Honest Mistake{19 February 2009}
Arizona is excited that Bailey is applying for a Pediatrics fellowship. Callie asks her out on a date and Arizona says no, commenting that she works with newborns every day at work and doesn't want that in her love life.

5x17 I Will Follow You Into the Dark{12 March 2009}
A teenage girl with epilepsy is rushed in after having a seizure at school. Arizona and Dr Hunt oversee Karev, who finds out she isn't epileptic but actually has a heart problem. At the end of the day, Arizona meets Callie in the elevator and apologizes and asks her out on a date.

5x19 Elevator Love Letter{26 March 2009}
Callie and Arizona dance it out in Callie's apartment. Later on, Arizona finds Callie hiding in the chapel. Callie tells Arizona that she feels guilty for wishing Izzie dead.

5x20 Sweet Surrender{23 April 2009}
Arizona is introduced to Callie's father. He wants to take Callie home after he finds out she is a lesbian. She refuses to leave, so her father disowns her. Arizona meanwhile has to tell a father to say goodbye to his 6-year-old daughter that has Tay-Sachs.

5x21 No Good at Saying Sorry{30 April 2009}
Callie is dealing with the consequences of her father having emptied out her bank account. Christina suggests that she lies and tells her family that they broke up. Arizona tells her that she can do what she wants, but Callie decides she can't do it. Her family should love her for what she is.

5x22 What a Difference a Day Makes{7 May 2009}
Callie is avoiding Arizona after a date gone wrong. Arizona doesn't know what is going on and Callie finally tells her that she can't afford the kind of dates that Arizona enjoys. Arizona suggests staying in from now on and ordering pizza instead. Arizona accompanies Callie to Izzie and Alex's wedding.

5x23 Here's to the Future{14 May 2009}
Arizona battles with the Chief for Bailey's attention and worries that he is trying to lure Bailey back to general surgery. She later shows Bailey and Callie the joy in Pediatrics surgery.

 5x24 Now or Never {14 May 2009}
  When O'Malley enlists in the Army, Callie and Arizona fight over Arizona's opinion that she finds it 'awesome'. Arizona later explains that she lost her brother in Irac because there weren't enough doctors there.
